Matite in Viaggio

The pandemic period prevented me from attending the Matite in Viaggio festival in Mestre-Venezia. Every year, coming to MIV is overall the occasion of meeting good friends and fellow sketchers in an extraordinary inspiring and sumptuous city.

It is also a real pleasure to live a few days in Italy, to improve my low level of language and to enjoy their sophisticated quality of life.

I then returned to Chioggia, a fisherman old city in the south of the laguna, that I first discovered almost 30 years ago when I was studying in the Beaux-Arts school of Lyon.

Matite in Viaggio

Con Federico Gemma, Silvia Cariani e David Zappaterra
Matite in Viaggio is a travel sketchbook (Carnet de Voyage) festival in Mestre, a city at the door of Venice. This edition was featuring a lot of very talented artists and this is an honor to figure among the selection.
с Еленой Юзефовичем und Detlef Surrey
The exhibition is the occasion to meet each other or to see again one year after.  We also have great time visiting and sketching the Serenissima  and… drinking Spritz together ;)
La granda cena
Our Italian friends  are welcoming us so warmly every year.  The saturday night dinner is the Climax of the week-end, and this year's table was bigger than ever.

Matite in Viaggio

Sketching with Hugo (Port) and Elena (Rus)
Matite in Viaggio is an exhibition of travel sketchbooks (carnets de voyage) taking place in Mestre, an italian city linked to Venice.
During the week-end, the visitors could browse our original sketchbooks
96 artists were selected to present their work at the Candiani Cultural Center and, for my personal satisfaction, "Mountains" was one of this year's theme.
The center of Mestre is so close to Venice that we had many occasions to sketch together in this wonderful place..
The warm welcome of the organizing team clearly contributed to the success of this event.

The exhibition is still running, every afternoon from 4 to 8pm (except mon and tue), until october 22nd.
