Urban Sketchers Symposium Buenos Aires

The Urban Sketchers 2024 symposium took place in Buenos Aires from October 9 to 12. This was my twelfth international meeting, and for me, my sixth participation.

Le symposium Urban Sketchers 2024 s'est tenu à Buenos-Aires du 9 au 12 octobre. Il s'agissait de la douzième rencontre internationale et pour moi, de ma sixième participation.

After Barcelona in 2013, Manchester in 2016, Chicago in 2017, Porto in 2018 and Amsterdam in 2019, I had the honor of being an instructor in the Argentine capital.

The symposium is always a great party where participants, volunteers and instructors meet altogether and share in the greatest conviviality. What a pleasure to discover new talents and establish new relationships with sketchers from distant countries on other continents.

YOUR INSTRUCTOR

Vincent Desplanche is a professional illustrator, woodblock printmaker and Urban Sketchers correspondent for the city of Toulouse (France). His favorite theme is definitely mountain landscapes, but he is also very interested in drawing people in motion and traditional architecture. He will teach you his own useful tips to improve your skills in different areas of sketching.

Carnets d'Alpage, 10-14 juillet 21 -Grand-Bô c'est terminé !

Depuis l'idée de départ et le premier coup de fil à Pierre Amoudry et Luc Perillat pendant l'hiver, en plein confinement, nous avons fait un long et beau chemin.
The event "Carnets d'Alpage" is over ! From the strating idea and the firstpone call to my initiator friends, during the winter lockdown of the pandemic, we have been doing a long and passionating journey.

Nous avons d'abord présenté notre projet à Le Grand-Bornand qui n'a pas hésiter à nous soutenir. Nous avons ensuite complété et diversifié notre équipe avec 3 invitées aussi talentueuses que joviales Silvia De Bastiani, Marielle Durand et Emmanuelle Viguie
We have first presented the project to the local tourist office and they didn't hesitate a moment to commit to it. Then we invited three artist friends that are particuliarly talented.

After a few months of preparation, spotting in  the area despite the capricious spring weather, we are very happy to have brought this project to fruition.

Les ateliers ont fait le plein et les sketchcrawls ont attiré chaque jour de nombreux dessinateurs. Nous aurons bientôt des chiffres plus précis à avancer mais pour l'instant, nous nous délectons de la réussite de cet évènement et espérons qu'il vous aura plu.
The workshops were sold out and the sketchcrawls attracted many people every day. We will soon have more precise datas but for now, we are delighted by the success of this event and hope you have enjoyed it.

Je tiens à remercier les deux marques partenaires que nous avons sollicitées et qui n'ont pas hésité à nous soutenir généreusement, à savoir : Caran d'Ache qui a offert de belles boites aux participants de l'atelier démonstration NeocolorII et des échantillons à tous les autres participants, ainsi que Seawhite of Brighton qui a complété les tote bags Caran d'Ache avec des petits carnets de croquis.

I would like to thank the two brands that we have solicited and who helped us generously, namely: Caran d'Ache who offered 15 crayons boxes to the participants of the NeocolorII demonstration workshop and examples to all other participants, as well as Seawhite of Brighton who completed the Caran d'Ache tote bags with small sketchbooks.

Winsor & Newton was also present in Silvia de Bastiani's workshops, due to her partnership.

Pour ma part, j'ai animé ma première démo officelle de craies de cire aquarellables NeocolorII pour Caran d'Ache. Ensuite, j'ai eu le plaisir de proposer deux ateliers spécifiques de 3h sur le croquis de montagnes. Un sur la profondeur atmosphérique et un autre sur la composition.
I personally animated my first official demo of NeocolorII watersoluble wax crayons for Caran d'Ache. Then, I had the pleasure of leading two specific 3-hour workshops on mountain sketching. One on atmospheric perpective and another on composition.

Trek & Sketch en Vallée d'Aspe

Quelques images du stage de croquis en montagne "Trek&Sketch en Vallée d'Aspe". Entre les averses nous avons pu faire quelques balades rafraichissantes et les participants ont montré beaucoup de volonté pour dessiner sous un parapluie. Malgré toutes les péripéties nous en garderons de très beaux souvenirs.
Some pictures of the four days workshop "Trek&Sketch" in the western Pyrenees. Despite the mostly rainy weather we managed to do refreshing walks and the participants showed a lot of determination to paint watercolors under an umbrella. I am sure that all these troubles won't prevent us from having fond memories of this stay.

2020 has been a frustrating year for sketchers around the world. After the spring lockdown I enjoyed a lot hiking in the mountains. Unfortunately we had to stay at home again during fall and winter.

No way for leading sketching workshops, even outdoor. Brenda Murray had the great idea to suggest me  to record an online Mountain Sketching Workshop for her Video Channel Studio 56 Boutique. I did a sketch-along workshop filmed on location at an altitude of 3000 ft. in the Pyrenees mountains near Ercé including two demos, tons of tips and tricks and 30 additional examples of my work. Sketch #1 - Massif de Bassiès

2020 a été une année frustrante pour les dessinateurs adeptes du croquis sur le vif et des carnets de voyage. Après un premier confinement j'ai profité au maximum de mes randonnées en montagne estivales. Malheureusement nous avons a nouveau été restreints dans nos déplacements en automne et en hiver. Aucun moyen de proposer aux public des ateliers de croquis en extérieur. Brenda Murray a eu donc la judicieuse idée de me suggérer d'enregistrer des cours de croquis de montagne en ligne pour sa chaine vidéo Studio 56 Boutique. J'ai filmé deux ateliers, depuis les granges de Cominac au dessus du village d'Ercé dans le Couserans, dans lesquels je présente à travers deux démonstrations les principes qui guident mon expérience, de nombreux petits conseils et une trentaine d'exemple puisés dans ma production personnelle. MI-LAB Moku Hanga Training Program

The Mokuhanga Innovation Laboratory (MI-LAB) Studio is located on the banks of the Kawaguchi Lake. It hosts several times a year Moku hanga training programs for foreign artists.

I attended to the fall session from October 27th to November 30th 2019 with five other artists. The residency is ideally situated at the foot of Mount Fuji in a traditional Japanese land house.

Our studious days were punctuated by the sound of the primary school bell, the call of our house keeper Sato San for lunchtime and the fleeting apparitions of Fuji San between the clouds.

Our teachers were very talented and, whilst teaching us the basics of Moku hanga, they opened doors to infinite fields of graphic experimentation.

USk Swiss symposium 2019 in Zuoz

The Swiss Urban Sketchers chapter organised its first symposium in the mountains of the Canton of Graubünden on September 21/22 2019. Thanks to the huge work of few organizers (Mario, André and Heidi) we were host in a magical location: the Lyceum Alpinum of Zuoz. I had the honor of being one of the faculty teachers.

I led two workshops about "mountain sketching" with enthusiasm, in a gorgeous valley under a bright sun. The symposium gathered around fifty people and was a great success. We all hope to meet again next year for such a friendly time.

Les Urban Sketchers de Suisse (principalement Suisse-Allemands) ont organisé leur premier symposium dans les montagnes du canton des Grisons les 21 et 22 septembre 2019. Grâce au travail colossal d'une poignée d'organisateurs (Mario, André et Heidi), nous avons été accueillis dans un lieu magique : le Lyceum Alpinum de Zuoz. J'ai eu l'honneur de faire partie du groupe d'enseignants.

J'ai animé avec enthousiasme deux ateliers de "croquis de montagnes", dans une magnifique vallée sous un soleil radieux. Le symposium, qui a réuni une cinquantaine de personnes, a été une grande réussite. Nous espérons tous nous revoir l'année prochaine pour un moment aussi convivial.
