Last year, as I was participating for the first time to Matite in Viaggio, many people told me about the Dolomites, a mountain range listed to the UNESCO world heritage.
I had never been there but I knew that these amazing rocky mountains with their singular shapes should be an
inexhaustible source of inspiration.
Certainly, October is not the best time
to come and hike in this area. This is the slack period between summer
and winter, hike and ski. Almost no public transportation out of the
urban area and many refuges are closed.
However, as I was coming back to Venezia this year, I planned a short stay at Cortina d'Ampezzo and two days hiking around the Falzárego Pass and stayed one night at the Lagazuoi Refuge.
From the sunrise to the sunset, I'm sketchingas much as I can : 24 watercolor sketchbook spreads in 2 days, 11 the first and 13 the second. There are plenty of trails and at every corner one has a new view on these sculptural summits.

L'an denier, lors de ma participation à Matite in Viaggio, la plupart des exposants italiens de la partie "montagne" présentaient leurs croquis dans les Dolomites. Ces montagnes de calcaire monumentales, inscrites au patrimoine de l'Unesco, figuraient dans un coin de mon esprit comme des sujets presque imaginaires. Existaient-elles réellement ?
Pour en avoir le cœur net, je me suis organiser pour y faire un saut cette année. Même si le mois d'octobre n'est pas du tout la période idéale pour aller y randonner, coincé entre la fermeture des refuges fin septembre et l'ouverture des stations de ski en décembre, j'ai pu trouver le moyen d'y marcher deux jours et de séjourner dans l'extraordinaire refuge Lagazuói.
Ainsi, du lever au coucher du soleil, j'ai arpenté les abords du Passo Falzárego et dessiné autant que possible : 24 double-pages aquarellées, 11 le premier jour et 13 le second. L'endroit est bien pourvu en sentiers et à chaque virage surgit un nouveau point de vue sur ces montagnes uniques.
Je n'attends qu'une chose, y retourner dès que possible pour parcourir une des hautes routes en son entier. Tous les croquis sont rassemblés dans
